I knew it was bad, but experiencing it firsthand is something else.
Not that I want this instance to particularly drag on, but it must be noted their first message was not problematic. Every city has unique hardships that tourism will not show, and Paris is no doubt, the most romanticized place on earth. It’s understandable a resident would want to express it’s grim reality, although.. it’s a little late to discourage me from visiting, unfortunately.
The second message, however.. concerns me.
For one, it’s comprised entirely of assumed information, none of which could be determined from my blogfront, and then insults are hurled based on this embarrassingly misguided ‘assumption’.
The whole tone of the message oozes with a vile sense of entitlement- that by possessing such ‘privilege’ and expressing displeasure, they are automatically correct and free to exercise any measure of power over another.
Nobody should have the disrespect to do such a thing!
Surpassing this- regardless of our experiences… what a terrible thought it is to imagine that using or learning more than one language should be condemned! That no race should ever look at another! That we are wrong to appreciate architecture, landscapes or any other aspect of a country!
This kind of thinking only serves to segregate colonies into the very stereotypes we’ve worked to dispel, destroying what advancements toward global unity and tolerance that’s been achieved in our own lifetimes.
At times like these, I very much fear for the generation beginning to blossom. Is this really the future we are content to provide the seeds of?
A Xenophobic, self-entitled population taught only to attack each other?
..How terrible!
