flamefatalis:

Throughout the two episodes he starred in, Lysandre has remained rather secretive about his keystone.  Alain, Steven, and Mairin (oddly enough) have not even mentioned the fact that Lysandre is in possession of a keystone.  Then again, the anime is the anime… and it’s not very consistent on these things.

However, Lysandre’s knowledge of mega evolution seems to surpass Professor Sycamore’s.  He clearly knows a great deal about where to find mega stones and which Pokemon they cause to undergo mega evolution.  As previously stated, it is unknown if he has successfully mega evolved a Pokemon of his own (being that Pyroar is the only Pokemon of his we see in the show).  With his knowledge and drive, however, it would not be surprising if he has already accomplished mega evolution.  Perhaps this is something they will bring up in Act IV?

It is rather interesting that Manon (Mairin?) hasn’t noticed. She’s just met him, and has seen the various keystones flaunted by Alain’s opponents so far. However, since every small detail in that anime has a place due to being so compact, it’s possible we’re not supposed to ‘know’ yet.

And you’re very correct. Lysandre has the power, wealth and resources to quickly discover everything he wants about mega evolution. Not to mention he is much more knowledge-hungry and driven than Sycamore’s labs.
He would gladly work himself into a coma if it produced faster results.

My thoughts, were that this spinoff is situated before the events of XY, and possibly even before he had found/settled on the idea of unearthing the Ultimate Weapon.

This was based on his composure and relaxed nature, as opposed to how he appeared in XY. After he became convinced that the Weapon was the solution, it was all he could think about. This Lysandre we see in the Anime is more interested in Stones, and measuring power changes in potential.

This theory also has roots in the fact that when I played through ORAS, the first thing I noticed was how much information was readily lying around on the Ultimate weapon and the events of 3000 years ago. I became more fascinated with discovering those easter eggs than playing the plot at one point.

If he heard whispers of it, he would likely become interested simply because of his heritage. It could likely be where he first gained the idea.

It’s also possible Lysandre is not able to control Gyarados during the mega evolution in the Anime. He would likely need to practice far away from civilization, considering Gyarados is capable of destroying cities without Mega evolution. I’ve even heard whispers that he’s supposed to have a completely different Mega in this Anime.
Regardless, this is why he would need to practice in a foreign country with a lower population/less industrialization than Kalos, ideally.
Because Sycamore is very well connected, and I’ve already gone into details about the fact that it appeared he had spies on Lysandre during his movements in Kalos.

The ONLY thing which does not make sense in this particular theory, is the ‘odd’ philosophical call to the XY protag and his probable lie about abilities during the Café Lysandre scene, which both suggested he had not yet mastered it. Unless of course, this takes place during the events of XY and is set just before the weapon unearthment, which I would see as unrealistic based on his composition and behavior alone.

Regardless, it’s likely we will soon find out the truth! That is, if the two stories are supposed to have any correlation whatsoever..
